Eminem and his prodigy Yelawolf (out of Alabama) go in on this track along with possibly the most underrated, “shown no love”, power rap foursome known as Slaughterhouse (also on Shady Records). The result: a lyrical masterpiece (what else would we expect from Em) with a studio freestyle session feeling to it. The 6 murdered the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards with this video last night.
I caught Slaughterhouse for the first time in the summer of ’09 at Rock the Bells in Boston. They were on the intimate “side stage” and blew the roof off the main stage who was featuring Big Boi at the time. Hear this: Joe Budden knows how to get the crowd rolling. It was most definitely the most energy I’ve ever experienced from hip hop. For those of you un familiar with Slaughterhouse it consists of:
- New Jersey’s Pride, Joe Budden
- Brooklyn’s very own, Joell Ortiz
- Crooked I, from Long Beach, Ca
- Detroit’s, Royce da 5’9
This track has a Wu-Tang style to it. Light beat in the background, focus on strong lyrics and specific artist style. Don’t forget about Yelawolf either, he brings some real consistent heat. Not even going to comment on Em for the sake of remaining objective. But in my opinion, the greatest “lyricist”/ “rap poet” of all time.
Bob that head and Enjoy this rare collaborative release from Shady Records. Here is the video. Your going to have to sit through 30 seconds of Drake and Sprite but it’s totally worth it.
