In the heart of Atlanta at Centennial Olympic Park, the state’s beloved Shaky Beats festival took place May 20-22. After the loss of Counterpoint and TomorrowWorld this year, Atlanta ravers were eager to kick off their festival season right. Like many new festivals, there’s a lot of unknown anticipation and excitement. After personally attending, it’s safe to say we’ve already got Shaky Beats booked on our 2017 calendar.
Not only was the weather absolutely perfect the entire weekend, but so were the vibes. With quick and organized entry lines and easy accessible parking, entering the festival was a breeze. Upon entering were tons of Atlanta’s favorite food trucks including Five Finger Philly, Pero’s Pizza and The Fry Guy. The festival really outdid themselves with a tremendous line of merchandise and plenty of our favorite vendors. Those who were new to Atlanta realized quickly they were in the heart of the city, visibly surrounded by the famous SkyView Atlanta Ferris Wheel, the CNN Center, Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca Cola. With the perfect blend of hip-hop, rap and electronic artists, first timers to the area were able to experience true Atlanta style. The park itself offered plenty of space to roam, yet attendees were able to see the stages within a short walking range. While there were thousands in attendance, it never once felt overcrowded despite the small size of the park.
Some of our favorite artists hit the stage beginning Friday, with hard-hitting performances by Jai Wolf, Major Lazer, Zhu and more. Saturday they caught us with the feels, including artists Marshmello, Odesza and Porter Robinson. Sunday closed out the weekend right in true Atlanta style, with major trap artists Yellow Claw, Carnage, NGHTMRE and a terrific jazz performance by Big Gigantic.
Shaky Beats is one for the books, and we look forward to attending next year!
