Shaky Knees is almost here, and it’s time to fine tune your plan of attack, for one of the biggest weekends of music in Atlanta. This Friday, May 8 to Sunday, May 10, the best of the indie world will descend upon the Old Fourth Ward of Atlanta, Georgia for what is sure to be a memorable gathering starring headliners including Tame Impala, The Avett Brothers, and The Strokes.
These heavyweight bands will be closing out each night of the fest with no conflicting sets on other stages, so get to the main Peachtree Stage early if you don’t want to be rocking out to “Reptilia” from a mile away.
Tough set choices for Friday have us debating between Manchester Orchestra or Kaiser Chiefs and again with The Pixies or James Blake. Time to flip a coin come Saturday to decide whether you’ll be catching Interpol or Neutral Milk Hotel or joining the crowd at Wilco or Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Finally time for the Sunday fun day showdown of either Preservation Hall Jazz Band or the Mowgli’s, Trombone Shorty or Panda Bear, and Ryan Adams or Xavier Rudd and the United Nations.
Friday, May 8
Saturday, May 9
Sunday, May 10
When the festival gates close the party will just be getting starting. Portugal the Man, who is not on the actual festival lineup, has already sold out their heavily anticipated after show at The Masquerade along with several other parties including James Blake’s kickoff show Thursday night before the fest.
As far as best means for transport to your favorite late night headliner, most of the after party venues will not be within walking distance, exception being 15 stroll to The Masquerade. If you’re coming in for the fest from out of town you will want to pay Terminal West a visit. ATLien approved, Terminal West, more intimate in size, is a lower-key, hidden gem loved by the locals and concert addicts of the city.
Center Stage Theater, The Loft, and Vinyl all neighbor each other in the heart of Midtown, about a ten minute Uber from the festival, and The Earl will serve as your East Atlanta venue option, located about a 15 minute drive away.
Single and three day festival tickets are still available here, but probably not for too much longer. We will see all of your smiling faces and shaking knees next weekend in Atlanta.
