Shambhala Music Festival is helping revitalize the local community in Nelson, British Columbia by purchasing the Savoy Inn, a building that had been vacant for the past five years.
The newly transformed and not yet named Savoy Inn will provide 50 or more full and part time jobs, while combining the Shambhala ethos of music, fabulous food, accommodations and distinctive cultural character.
“Our vision is to give Nelson another layer of awesome, the new Savoy will be a great addition to an amazing town,” says Executive Producer Corrine Zawaduk.
Shambhala remains off the radar for many American dance musice fans because they’ve refused to give into the dance music hype, instead focusing on enhancing the cultural richness of the festival and community. Their initiatives prove that music festivals can be bigger than the acts, the headliners and the associated party.
Tickets for the 2013 event are still available for purchase, but about 80% sold out at this point.
