Shortly succeeding his “3001 (VIP)” collaboration with Portugese scratch champion DJ Ride, Shöckface has returned to invert singer-songwriter Lauren Martinez’s pop song, “Superman.” Shockface takes Lauren’s original alt-pop ballad to the underground and reimagines it into a rhythmic and captivating audio experience.
“This release came to life when speaking with Lauren, a good friend I met in music college almost 3 years ago in LA,” shared Shockface. “I reached out to Lauren about doing an inversion for her record ‘Superman.’ I was on a morning walk one day, and ‘Superman’ came on shuffle on Spotify and it just hit me in my feels so hard because of some things that were going on in my personal life.”
Shöckface’s thematic bass work and experimental sound design intertwines with Lauren’s pop song structure to create an unstoppable collaborative force. It’s a genre-bending anomaly that combines pop, bass, and electronic themes into one tight package. The inversion creates something entirely new and true to Shöckface’s signature sound, while keeping the integrity of the original work perfectly intact.
“Shöckface Inversions hold a special place in my heart & I really want to make them a cornerstone of my art for the beautiful people who listen to my music. Finding that sweet spot of raw emotion, hard hitting bass & swing with taste.”
