Deft Monk, a California native who lived most of his life in Alabama, Georgia, has taken it upon himself to reinvent one of Showtek’s most popular tunes, “We Like To Party”. This young-gun studied music throughout his educational career and is well versed in the violin, piano and guitar. He’s currently located in Asia where he is remixes tracks, making them more friendly and appealing for the crowds overseas. In his bio he states:
“When I got to Asia I noticed that lots of stuff popular in America wouldn’t fly here – outside the bpm range of 125-130 generally is a “nono” unless in short bursts and hip-hop/trap doesn’t work too well either. Also they tend to need drums and rhythm at all times for some reasons so long breakdown sections had to be changed. I have lots of success here changing our big songs into stuff they can deal with or playing other peoples remixes that do similar things such as “Harlem Shake,” the Slider & Magnit remix. Last year I did tours for Heineken and Johnny Walker and was the first white male to be a judge at the Pioneer China National DJ competition.”
Deft Monk’s story is an interesting one and what he has been doing is working well and we give him many props.
His “We Like To Party” remix does exactly what he explains above. It’s unique in that it doesn’t subscribe directly to the big room “formula” that we see here in the United States. Overall Monk’s cut is refreshing, gets going quickly and offers a trap style segment.
