The Shuffle Button’s back and it’s better than ever. For the beginning of June this year, the Shuffle Button’s here.
Channel Tres – Controller
Channel Tres takes role of “Controller,” as he leads us into a downtempo dreamland with callbacks to 70’s funk records. The hypnotic vocals walk us through a soundscape filled with groovy bass-lines, tribal drums, and jazzy notes.
This soulful track is perfect for vibing along as you’re walking through town. Just picture George Clinton strolling next to you and you’ll be perfect.
Trance Wax – Trance 14
Northern Irish house and techno producer Ejeca has taken time off from his usual persona to revive Trance Wax. As Trance Wax, he digs up old trance records and breathes new life into them. The kicker is that he doesn’t even name them, he just gives them numbers. The result of his labour is a classic sound that has modern underpinnings.
“Trance 14” is the biggest song on the 4th edition of Trance Wax. It features a piano riff as the centerpiece and surrounds it with break beats to create a track that is the ultimate nostalgic auditory product.
Weiss – Feel My Needs
We’re going to kick up the tempo a little bit with Weiss’s new house track. “Feel My Needs” fills the heart with warm feelings and gets the feet moving with piano house goodness.
It’s upbeat and fun, a summer house tune that you’ll be hearing at pool parties during the day and in clubs at night. It’s instantly catchy and is uplifting and happy.
A classic release from Toolroom Records, this song will be playing to packed dance-floors all summer long.
Dossa & Locuzzed – Shag (VIP)
Keeping with the fun vibe, Dossa & Locuzzed bring us around to the drum and bass portion of the post. Rejigged for Viper Recording’s 2018 compilation, “Shag (VIP)” is an upbeat and jaunty track.
Taking the “Less is More” approach, Dossa & Locuzzed stuck with the same song composition but turned down the hectic pace. The result is an overall bouncier feel. The aggressive sounds that dominated the original now take turns with crisp snares and bass hits to allow for a more balanced sound.
Scot – Project – U (I Got A Feeling) (Eats Everything Rebeef)
It’s official, Eats Everything is trying to hypnotize listeners with acid house.
His remix of “U (I Got A Feeling)” is entrancing and traps listeners into a loop. It’s the musical equivalent of looking at a swirling screen or watching a swinging pocket-watch. It starts out innocent enough with a few tones and small hints of the acid house madness that is lurking just beneath the surface.
It just builds and builds until you’re unable to control yourself as your head rolls from side to side.
It’s an amazing piece of production and Eats Everything holds us in the palm of his hand until the last beat hits.
CHOOOOOOON of the Week
DJ Mangoo – Eurodancer
We hinted at some nostalgia earlier and frankly in the last few weeks this column has been on a bit of a nostalgia kick. So, we figured we’d lean into it to wind down this week’s post.
2000’s eurotrance was as amazing as it was ridiculous. It was perfect music to blast in your car with the windows down in the middle of summer.
It’s obnoxious, aggressive, loud, and simultaneously high pitched and bass heavy. It’s fast, it’s dirty, it’s not romantic or mellow. It’s eating candy for dinner hyper and just like sugary snacks has no nutritional value.
Put it this way, no one was worrying about DJ Mangoo’s musicianship, or wondering if he took his craft seriously. He made party music. Music to get drunk and high to. Music that’s frivolous. But damn it’s fun.
