Hi everybody and welcome back to the Shuffle Button. We’re starting off the week with a dark vibe, and by the end you’ll be singing and dancing like it’s last call at a karaoke bar. Let’s do this!
David Penn – Nobody (Club Mix)
We’re starting it off with an interesting combination of sounds. You don’t usually see tech house with a piano sample, but David Penn goes for it in “Nobody.” He actually doubles down with some soulful vocals.
The tech house vibe is deep but as the piano and vocal samples wear on you, the energy level gets progressively higher. It’s an interesting blend that starts the week off right.
Night Shift feat. Seta – Late Nights
After dipping our toe in, we’re jumping straight into the deep end with this next tune. In “Late Nights,” Night Shift manages to capture an exhausted club-goer’s progression of moods as the night is coming to an end.
The track is faced paced, but not hyper and at times dark and menacing. But it also plays through some melodic transitions. It characterizes the highs and lows that take place as the clock spins back around itself.
By giving you that last bit of energy, Night Shift wants to make sure you make it to the end of your night.
Cutty Ranks – Limb By Limb (DJ Hybrid Dubplate Special Mix)
You had to know that we were going to fit jungle into the post at some point, and here it is. For people who have been (not so) patiently waiting for the genre to come back into vogue these are exciting times.
DJ Hybrid’s remix is aggressive, fun, and hectic. It’s pure energy. The entire track embodies the classic jungle sound, and frankly we can’t ask for more than that.
Sub Focus & Dimension – Desire
Finally, we’re starting to break through the clouds and see the light.
“Desire” is a collaboration from two powerhouses in drum and bass. While the song is a bit lighter than you would initially expect given the artists on the bill, the track is tight. It has a great beat with a soft and uplifting vocal.
It’s definitely a bit poppy, but it sounds great.
Groove Armada – Superstylin’ (Riva Starr Edit)
Bringing together two legendary dance music artists, Riva Starr’s edit of “Superstylin” adds that extra movement to Groove Armada’s monster hit.
Making sure to keep the reggae vibe, Riva Starr takes the original track to the club and abandons it in the middle of the dance floor.
With a consistently jacking beat, Riva Starr gets everyone moving in the same direction.
CHOOOOOOON of the Week
Paul Oakenfold feat. Shifty ShellShock – Starry Eyed Surprise
Hiding amongst the heavy electronica of Paul Oakenfold’s iconic Bunkka is a positively sunny and light-hearted dance song.
“Starry Eyed Surprise” is happiness transformed into a slowly bubbling bass-line and a lazy guitar riff. Summertime, beaches, pool parties, this sound is pure bliss.
Paul Oakenfold has exhibited many sounds throughout his career and is more well-known for his electronica and trance than the sound present in this track. It might be pop, the cotton candy of music, but it’s hard to listen to this song and not feel a smile spread across your face.
