The Shuffle button is officially back. There’s no longer a need to go searching for your weekly dose of music randomness, we are back on. We’re going to ease back into things with some fun songs. They will have different elements to them, but the main theme of the week is songs that will put a smile on your face or get your feet moving (maybe even both).
Kove – Searching
We’re going to start with some light drum and bass. Some songs just take you to a happy place. A place where the grooves pick you up, the rhythms make you smile, and the energy gets the good vibes flowing. Kove is making his comeback after some time out of the game, and this classic from a few years ago reminds us that he’s a fantastic producer and to watch out for his new releases in the coming months.
Jesse Ware – Alone (Toddla T Remix)
Keeping those good feelings going, we’re turning onto some upbeat piano house. Toddla T takes Jesse Ware’s soulful and emotional original track and picks it up a bit. The finished product is a combination of bouncy grooves and Jesse Ware’s powerful and uplifting voice. It brings you right to a nice summer afternoon where the sun is bright, and a light breeze blows all your troubles away.
Patrick Topping – Be Sharp Say Nowt
Getting a little more energetic, we’ll move onto Patrick Topping’s newest release. His new EP is headlined by this pumping, club banger. We here at the Shuffle Button are suckers for some good gospel vocals, and Topping uses them to really expand the room. The vocals combined with the loud breakdown fill any space from wall to wall. Whether you’re pounding the dancefloor at a dark club, or just nodding along with your headphones this track just sounds loud.
Yousef feat. The Angle – Vanity (Yousef’s Black & Acid Dub)
Sticking with fun but getting a little bit darker, we’re heading into acid house territory. Acid house has that sound that no matter how dark it tries to be, inherently it’s still fun and a little bit funky.
Circus Recordings boss Yousef released his latest EP last month. It included the deep and techy Vanity, a few remixes from the likes of Carl Cox and Bontan, and this edit. The acid house score sets it completely apart from and adds an extra element of playfulness to the deep house original.
Drumsound & Bassline Smith – Rise of the Black Panther
Aaaand we’ve worked our way back around to drum and bass. Although, this song has a much different feel to the first one.
You can tell the artists had lots of fun making this one, and they gave it the perfect name. You can almost see this as the background music to a sped-up chase scene from the Pink Panther cartoon.
It’s always nice when artists have a little fun with their craft and don’t take themselves too seriously. You can end up with a lively tune that combines a whimsical flute, upright bass funk, and bouncy drums to get your feet moving and put a smile on your face.
CHOOOOON of the Week
Daniel Bedingfield – Gotta Get Through This
Who remembers 2001? The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter were in theaters. The song atop Billboard’s Hot 100 was by Nickelback (seriously), and Daniel Bedingfield released “Gotta Get Through This”.
Every part of this song is infectious. You can somehow get just the lyrics stuck in your head or just the main riff stuck in your head at completely different times.
You can tell something is perfect when you can neither add nor subtract any elements to make the end-product better. It might be the nostalgia talking, but that’s how we feel about this song.
