Hey everybody and welcome back to the Shuffle Button. This week we’re going to give you some light and fun music to help you get over that New Years Eve hangover and get back to work. Let’s kick off 2018.
Markolino Dimond – Tiene Sabor (Gran Moxy Remix)
We’re going to start off the week with something unmistakably chill and unbelievably groovy. Gran Moxy is an American DJ who plays almost exclusively in Miami. His Latin American vibe sounds like it’s straight out of Little Havana. The combination of the piano, horns, drums and maracas will have you doing the salsa in no time.
Kings Of Tomorrow – Finally
Staying on this house tip, we’re keeping the good vibes and disco tunes pumping.
“Finally” has been around forever in electronic music terms. It was released all the way back in 2000 and has been featured on over 160 compilations. To say this is one of the most popular house music tunes would be more understatement than hyperbole. Given the absurdly catchy vocals, classic disco sounds, and steady house beat, it’s no wonder that it’s been featured the world over.
Midland – Final Credits
We’re narrowing our scope to this year, but keeping the theme of excellent house. In “Final Credits”, Midland delivered one of the best house songs of 2017. Much like “Finally” this is a song that’s heavy in disco influence and encourages you to smile and dance. It provides the perfect soundtrack to winding down your night. It’s hard to listen to this song and not imagine being at a club at the end of a show and hugging all your friends. Midland’s combination of a funky guitar over an upbeat but not overpowering bass-line just wills you to move your feet, no matter how exhausted you are.
Ghosted feat. Kamille – Get Some (Cyantific Remix)
You knew we were going to work in some drum and bass in some way, shape, or form. However, not to worry, we’re sticking with a happy vibe.
This remix is on the lighter side of Cyantific’s sound and you get the idea that this is probably as liquid as he’s going to get. What that means, is that the song is fun and bouncy but not quite as light or ethereal as pure liquid. He does a good job of capturing the levity of the vocal and the attitude of the original but also kicking it up a few notches with some pace and energy. Great song to put a smile on your face and pep in your step.
Camo & Krooked – Good Times Bad Times (Document One Remix)
Since it’s the last song (before the CHOOON of course), you know we had to make it just a little bit heavier.
Camo & Krooked always put out moody songs that hit you right in the feels. Document One makes a great decision in keeping the build-up and vocal similar to keep the emotions running high. But what comes after is a departure from what you’re expecting. Instead, you get a classic Document One bass-line, one with funky overtones laid over a powerful bass-line with just enough wobbles to keep you guessing. The juxtaposition makes both the light vocal and deeper drop more effective. In contrasting those elements, the song makes the listener appreciate each extreme a little bit more.
CHOOOOOOOON of the Week
Congorock – Babylon (Dub)
We kept it light and upbeat with the other songs this week. But we took a totally different direction with the CHOOON.
This song was released a full 7 years ago, and believe us when we tell you, it still goes off. The reggaetón bassline combined with the heeeaavvvyyy drop produce something that speaks to the listener on a primal level. It brings out your animal nature and makes you dance around like a madman (or madwoman). The power is undeniable.
It’s unfortunate that Congorock hasn’t toured in over two years, because with the style of this song and his other releases (check out “Ivory” here) there’s no doubt that party would be off the chain.
Thanks for listening, we’ll see you next week.
