We should never make predetermined notions before giving a track it’s due diligence. At first glance (considering past experiences) I was admittedly skeptical towards a Notorious tribute which just happened to release on the 15th anniversary of his death. Time after time we are exposed to haphazard productions tossed together with a driving intent for publicity rather than the thoughtful craftsmanship of a delicate original.
SikDuo kicked my predisposition in it’s ass. Their ‘BIG’ re-edit solicited gritty tech-electro and married it with “Hypnotize”/ Crooklyn Clan’s “Franklinz” in the highest regard. Elements of heyday hip-hop linger on the minimal while nostalgic Biggie sound bites break stride in the midst of an almost underground electronic beat. Another perfect example that timeless icons will never expire and good music will forever inspire.
