This Halloween, we know you have plenty of options. From Suwannee Hulaween in Florida to Freak Night in Seattle, HARD Day of the Dead in LA to Pier of Fear in NYC; just about every major city will be throwing down for this spooktastic holiday. One thing is for certain though, no where will be getting weirder than New Orleans for the Voodoo Experience 2014.
Between the incredible outdoor venue, the smorgasbord line-up, and all of the haunted horror New Orleans has to offer, this is the best Halloween destination imaginable.
Not convinced? Check out our six reasons you should spend your Halloween at Voodoo 2014 and get ready to make your way South to immerse yourself in culture, soul, and strange like you’ve never seen before.
6) City Park
Spanning over 1,300 acres, there is so much more to City Park than just the Voodoo Experience and plenty to explore. While the Voodoo grounds will have everything you need, City Park is so expansive that you should seek to take a couple of hours out of your day to explore one of the largest public parks in America.
With a botanical garden, disc golf course, New Orleans Museum of Art and Sculpture, troll bridges over ponds, and some amazing architecture; there is so much to do and see if you’re in the mood for exploring the park. It also has a gorgeous natural feel to it and as the locals will tell you, the weather in late October/November is the best all year.
5) Diverse Crowd Experience
Considering it’s an all-ages event and the line-up sports such a variety of acts, there will be all kinds of different people present at this festival. You’ll be mixed into the Voodoo melting pot with NOLA locals, voodoo hippies, kids, EDM fans from all over the US, die-hard rock fans, families, and everyone in between. Not to mention everyone is going to be in character/costume (since it’s Halloween), to make for one of the weirdest experiences to ever be conjured.
4) Down Home Cookin’
There are two things New Orleanians like to do best: eat and drink. Just about every week during the summer you can find some kind of festival celebrating classic New Orleans staples.
Like any festival, Voodoo provides a variety of places to eat; but you won’t any of the usual festie food vendors here. Most of the food booths are just small versions of the some of the greatest restaurants in New Orleans. Which means all of the food made at Voodoo Experience is prepared by the best names in Louisiana just for your festival enjoyment.
3) Unexpected Line-Up
Although several summer festivals have presented a variety of genres this year, Voodoo tops all with it’s completely diversified line-up. There is a little something for everyone, and we aren’t just talking about EDM genres. There will be rock bands, reggae groups, marching bands and choirs, deep and groovy house DJs, plenty of brass instruments, and of course all of the Pretty Lights.
The Voodoo line-up also offers several artists that you won’t see on many festival line-ups, and good luck finding them on tour in your city. This will be might be your only opportunity to catch these rarely seen artists like Pete Tong, Galantis, the Foo Fighters, Thomas Gold, and Fedde le Grande.
2) Amazing Art & Style
It would be an understatement to simply say that this city is brimming with culture. Whether its food, art, or style; New Orleans does it the only way they know how – with charm and flair and there is no shortage of that at Voodoo Experience.
Right smack dab in the middle of the grounds are some of the most unique vendors you’ll see at a festival. Most of them are locals that stay current throughout New Orleans own summer festival season, which makes Voodoo the perfect cross-over event because it brings both New Orleans and electronic dance music cultures together for some of the most eclectic art and clothing styles around.
Make sure to save some room in your budget for the vendors, because you’ll wish you could buy it all.
1) Get Voodoo-ed in New Orleans
Named by US Today as the second most haunted city in the US, there is no better time to visit New Orleans than Halloween (well, other than Mardi Gras, of course). New Orleans history is bursting with weird, frightening and downright insane people that have made this city home.
If you get a chance to explore the city, be sure to check out one of the famous cemeteries where old Voodoo queen Marie Laveau and Bernard de Marigny (the first to bring craps to the US) make their final resting place. Or head down to the French Quarter and take a haunted tour and take a peek inside one of the many voodoo shops.
Not to mention some other amazing Voodoo offerings:
– VIP is very much worth it (free food, discounted drinks, private bathroom, unlimited carnival rides, elevated viewing areas)
– Camp Voodoo is available for those who want to stay on-site
– Download the Voodoo mobile app for live updates, maps, artist info, and more
Tickets are currently at $150 GA and will go up to $175 on 9/4 so be sure to get them soon!
