Aside from his Essential Mix and the Dog Blood Middle Finger Part II EP, Skrillex has been almost completely absent this year. This marks a complete reversal from 2012 where he was headlining almost every festival imaginable.
However Sonny will finally take to the stage to play some new tunes this Saturday at the Reading and Sunday at Leeds Festival. He told BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, “This is the first time I’ve played a proper Skrillex show at a festival all year, actually. So I’m exited to play some new music and we have new visuals and stuff that we’re working with.”
The new visuals will probably come by the way of an upgraded mothership, but Skrillex did go into details about his new material.
“I have a lot of music right now, I have more songs than an album… will it be two releases or will it be one release? I don’t know. If it feels like an album, it’s an album, if it doesn’t then it’s gonna be a 10-minute mega song.”
As the summer winds down, expect Skrillex to release a new EP or even a full length album later this year. It won’t have the same level of hype or fanfare that Get Lucky did because that’s not his style, but we’ll be anticipating it just the same.
