SoDown, aka Ethan Wright is the rising Colorado based star who has been turning heads in the bass scene since the inception of his project in 2013. Since then, Wright has performed at festivals such as Coachella, Electric Forest, Big Dub, Global dance, and many more. With a raw sense of artistic power, Wright’s productions have fused genres and helped him get signed with the same company that manages Pretty Lights. If that’s not enough, then consider the fact that he’s also self taught on the saxophone and regularly incorporates it in his life performances and productions.
Genres have proven to never contain Wright and he even developed what he calls the GetDown genre key consisting of SoHeavy, SoChill, and SoGroovy. The fall of 2018 is proving to be the biggest yet for Wright as he will be embarking on tour as support for The Floozies, and then another tour with OPIUO. His most recent track “Stand Up” was just released with Homemade Spaceship and we’re eagerly awaiting the release of his forthcoming “Jet Black” EP on October 23rd. RaverRafting had the opportunity to sit down with SoDown to discuss his touring, new track, and upcoming EP. Check out our exclusive interview and be sure to listen below to “Stand Up”!
You’ve produced music that is hip-hop, funk, and bass, what made you go for a bass release with “Stand Up”?
SoDown: I love bass music. It has so much raw power and instinctive qualities. Exploring that has always been a part of my music and this EP is the next chapter!
How was it working with Homemade Spaceship on the track, have you worked with him before?
SoDown: I love working with Rob! He’s one of my best friends, and an amazing producer.
Let’s talk a little bit about your forthcoming EP, what can we expect genre wise?
SoDown: There is a little bit of everything! From trap to house to dubstep. Bass music has always fascinated me. In this EP I wanted to explore the deep feeling of connectivity and power that I’ve experienced when in a crowd of people at a proper show.
Can you tell us a little bit about the “GetDown Key” and exactly what that is?
SoDown: It’s basically a break down of the styles I like to produce within my sound. Music is an adventure for me, when I sit down and write, I have no idea what is going to come out. It makes it really exciting, a new experience every time.
You performed at some big name festivals in 2018, if you had to choose, which was your favorite?
SoDown: Coachella, Electric Forest and Summer Camp stand out. Mostly because of the energy of the crowd. They were all sweltering hot though… I need to start touring with a mini spray fan.
It must be exciting to tour with The Floozies this fall, are there any locations you are especially excited for?
SoDown: Super excited!!! I’m excited for every date! Like with writing tracks, every show is a new adventure.
Lastly, if you had to pick any artist to work with on your next track, who would it be?
SoDown: Probably Dr. Dre. We would write some gangster ass cali G shit haha
We’d like to thank SoDown for taking the time to talk with us, be sure to listen below to his newest track “Stand Up” and keep your eyes peeled for his EP dropping October 23rd!
