Bass heads rejoice as Somnium Sound’s long awaited Genesis EP has finally been released for your listening pleasure. The five track EP (including a sick intro track), brings us into the lush world of Somnium’s creative sound. The EP kicks off with the intro track “Genesis” that sets the scene of a smooth landscape and allows the listener to melt away into a melodic paradise. The next track off the EP, “MAIM” caters toward the hard hitting style that initially garnered Somnium a massive following. Here’s what Somnium had to say about the creation of the EP.
The Genesis EP is an attempt from me to create and tell more of a story with my music. Instead of grabbing 4 unreleased bangers from the last year and tossing them into an EP, I wanted something more cohesive. I created this EP to be a seamless story heavily influenced by the soundtrack of video games that resonated with me growing up. In addition to creating a seamless body of work which complements each successive song, I also wanted to pair it to a visual aspect. For each song I personally created a visual to help guide the listener to the mental image I had while making the track.
What might be our favorite track of the EP, “Creation” is a multi-genre track that will have you head-banging to the first drop and raging as the BPM is cranked high for that final drop. Next up is the the laser driving tune “Pantheon of Plague” that blends elements of future bass and melodic bass. Last but not least is, “I’ll be Okay” (which is also a contender for our favorite track) as it employs a relaxed, melodic/future bass drop to start and ends with some smooth, genre-blending drum and bass.
To sum it up, Somnium’s “Genesis” EP feels like a breath of fresh air. It’s an experimental, multi-genre creation that will leave you thinking about the EP long after you’ve stopped listening.
