Imagine getting off of work and going home to a dark house with nothing but your computer in front of you, and you have one chance to pick the song that’s going to change your mood. For me, that song is Sound Remedy’s remix of Carosel’s “Let’s Go Home”. In moments, musical light shines through the window and I am instantly surrounded in melody.
Originally from the Windy City but currently residing in Los Angeles, Sound Remedy is not your average electronic producer. Not only is he a musical virtuoso, but also a business genius. He’s got a finance degree from one of the best schools in the country, and his parents are both Juliard graduates; you would think having such a prestigious background would give him a chip on his shoulder, but it’s actually the opposite. When it comes to music, he’s got a relaxed, easy-going attitude. Don’t think he isn’t a hard worker though, he recently spent three months perfecting his latest track, “Chiaroscuro” and has been endlessly working on his new collaboration with Kill Paris.
As well as being a guru in the production studio this summer, he’s also kicking off his fall tour beginning in August. He is hitting every city from NYC to the Bay Area, trust me when I say this is the time to see Sound Remedy. He’s fired up and ready to melt some faces. He promises to give a little something for everyone, because he “LITERALLY plays every genre“. Check out Sound Remedy’s website for more information on tour dates.
We recently chatted with him about his upcoming fall tour, the “EDM bubble”, and what he thinks about producers that don’t have musical experience.
You just finished Global Dance, how was it? How would you say the Colorado crowd compares to other festivals you’ve been to?
I love playing in Colorado. Red Rocks is one of my two favorite venues to play in so far. The other one being the Gorge for PARADISO.
You recently started playing massive festivals, how have the crowds reacted to the intense emotion in your music?
To be honest I still can’t believe what has been happening, but ya, seeing the crowds go absolutely crazy brings me endless joy. And I always take all their energy and put it into my songs back in the studio.
There has been a ton of speculation on the EDM bubble, what are your thoughts on this?
I am enjoying every second of the “bubble” and I will continue to enjoy it after it bursts because I feel like my music is different enough it can sustain a market crash. Also, the first bubble that will burst is the “house bubble” Like how the Beatport top 10 all sounds exactly the same??? That will be the first to go. Who knows what will follow. All I know if is in life you have to go hard and enjoy things while it’s going well so that is what I’m gonna continue to do.
Coming from a musical background, what are your thoughts on the necessity of musical experience in producing?
These days you really don’t need to know shit to produce. A lot of people are engineering sounds and not really even having chord progressions. Instead of resisting this, I fucking love it. I say if you wanna be a nerd and geek out in massive all day, GO FOR IT. Whatever works man!!! Just have fun.
You’ve been working on a collaboration with Kill Paris! I’m so excited to hear it, can you describe the feel/mood you were going with when you made the song?
Don’t wanna say to much about the song before it’s released. I’ll just say that I am very excited for it.
Your US Tour starts in a month, it looks like you are hitting a TON of cities in the US, what is the feel going to be for this tour? How do you want your fans to leave, refreshed or ratchet?
This tour is gonna be madness. I already talked to my manager and he said it’s selling really well so I hope all my fans will get the opportunity to see me !!! I want my fans to have the time of their life. Considering I play LITERALLY every genre of music when I perform they will hopefully feel like they have just seen some crazy never before seen shit.
It seems as though your popularity is taking off like wild-fire, and you’ve hit a breaking point with your music. How do you feel now that you’ve come all this way?
I feel great, but I have a lot more in store for the world. This is only the beginning.
Anything else you’d like to share with your fans?
I wanna tell my fans thank you for the support. I also wanna encourage all of my fans to follow their dreams. It doesn’t have to be music, but if they have a burning desire in their heart, they should follow it. I want all my fans to be happy.
