According to statistics provided by comScore, Soundcloud’s total unique visitors by month increased 26% from February to March 2013, bringing them from 8.1 to 10.2 million. The 26% increase ranks them as the 178th most trafficked website in the United States.
The growth could be attributed to Soundcloud simplifying their premium plan. Earlier this year they created two new tiers – Pro and Pro Unlimited. Soundcloud also opened a beta program for branded pages that’s been made available for artists like Snoop Lion and brands like Red Bull.
Traffic is good for the Soundcloud because they’re sort of stuck in a pre-pivot phase. Should they begin to compensate artists for uploading their songs like Spotify does? Or are they the de-facto social network for passionate music fans? Gigaom thinks that the new branded pages may open up the opportunity for more content partners and advertisers on the site.
After taking a cool $50 million last January, I imagine the site is going to have to soon show some real profitability in the uber-competitive streaming music market. Dedicated users and increased traffic are a great start.
