Stafford Brothers Interview
TA: Tyler Almodovar
SB: Stafford Brothers
TA: The “Melbourne sound” has exploded in the states over the last few months and it has resulted in big breaks for many DJ/producers. Did you guys see this coming?
SB: No not personally, there is plenty of guys doing it in Australia, but its been here for ages so you can’t see something like that blowing up in another country.
TA: What are the biggest differences between the US dance music scene and the Australian scene?
SB: Bottle service. You aren’t allowed to pour your own drinks in Australia so not many clubs have bottle service. If the club does have bottle service, you have to have a waitress serving you each individual drink.
TA: Are there any Australian DJ/producers that you guys recommend we check out?
SB: Timmy trumpet, Tenzin, Jebu, Will K, Rob Pix, Apocolypto.
TA: It’s unique that you guys are signed to Cash Money Records, how did that relationship begin?
SB: Basically through management, they already had artists on the label so there was a relationship there. Then we put together the track with Lil Wayne and Christina Milian so it was the perfect fit.
TA: This year you guys entered the DJ Mag Top 100 for the first time, landing at number 90. What does this poll mean to you?
SB: It definitely means a lot, last year we got 140, so we were aiming to do better this year and its been a really big year. We have been voted number 1 Djs 3 years in a row in Australia by the poll here, so to make it internationally after moving to the USA etc. is definitely a great result.
TA: Can we expect any big surprises from the Stafford Brothers before the end of 2013? Do you have any New Years plans?
SB: We dropping a couple more club singles and hopefully another massive pop collab. We have everything in place, just waiting on the final rapper on it and here we go! NYE we are playing marquee in Sydney Australia and NYD we are playing 2 festivals in 2 states.
TA: What are your favorite things to do when you’re not locked in the studio or out playing shows?
SB: Snowboard or surf.
Editor’s note: Many thanks to the Stafford Brothers and their team for setting this interview and feature through WhiteRaverRafting.com.
