It’s been one and a half years since Steve Angello last full length album Wild Youth, and the former band mate of the super-group Swedish House Mafia has been hard at work in the background since then. Steve’s new forthcoming album Almost Human, which will be released in three parts over the next few months, each signify different stages of his life. Part one of the album was released late last week, titled Act I – Genesis. It features two very different sounding, but equally great tracks, “Breaking Kind” and “Rejoice.”
“Breaking Kind” features Paul Meany, the lead singer and keyboardist of Grammy-nominated U.S. rock band Mutemath. The track is a deep-synth piano-induced electronica melody that gives you that 80’s movie soundtrack feel. “Rejoice” has a completely different feel from “Breaking Kind,” filled with a sermon from Preacher T.D. Jakes, who Steve says changed his life. It’s a very powerful track, bursting with a robust choir and hard hitting bass and synths. Steve had this to say:
’Rejoice’ is the most powerful piece of music I’ve ever created. It isn’t a written record to fill a void or accomplish status – this is pure motivation, inspiration and honesty expressed by an incredible bishop that changed me completely. I’ve never done anything like it and I’ve never worked with words that meant more in my entire career. This record is ground-breaking for me as an individual. It came into my life when I needed it the most and I had to make that moment last forever by immortalizing it.
You can look forward to the next two releases, Act II – Inferno, and Act III – Paradiso in the next coming months, as well as Steve basing his shows off each chapter which will embody their own universe and an alternative way to ingest his music.
