Ridiculous? Yes. Inevitable? No. At some point the world’s of Southern hip hop and EDM were bound to collide, but the pairing here is certainly unexpected. Waka Flocka has been an advocate or bandwagoner of EDM for some time and will be working with Skrillex, Diplo and Flosstradamus on his new album. Not to mention that he already crowned himself the “Rap King of EDM”. For Steve Aoki detractors, well this is just giving them more ammunition for the dancing, whiteraverrafting and cake throwing DJ.
Dates for the tour haven’t been announced yet, but if they’re pre-hyping the shows already it’s probably because they’re visiting multiple stops. Whether it will be Aoki on the decks and Waka Flocka rapping or vice versa is yet to be seen, but it’s probably not far off to imagine the show being like a crunk version of Mad Decent Block Party. While Krewella draws in the pop-punk crowd, Aoki is targeting an entirely different demo by partnering with Waka Flocka Flame on this tour.
Another way to look at it of course is you have one guy who can’t rap and another who can’t DJ. The man can definitely throw a cake though.
