Summerfest has officially announced their headliners for 2014! Commuters were able to catch the announcement exclusively on different digital billboards at 6:00, 7:00 and 8:00AM this morning all over Milwaukee, Wisconsin before the acts were posted online. Summerfest started in the 1960’s and has grown into the World’s largest music festival. The festival lasts 11 days (starting the last Thursday in June) with performances from over 800 bands/artists. This year the festival runs June 25th- July 7th. Many Midwesterners consider Summerfest a summer tradition and their talent bookers an outstanding job of booking acts that appeals to EVERYONE in the family.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with how one festival is able to cram so much talent into 11 days, let me explain! From Noon-Midnight, live acts perform on 11 different stages throughout the Henry Maier Festival Park. All shows are free with an admission ticket, excluding the major headlining acts within the Marcus Amphitheater. Admission is between $9-$16 depending on the time of day. There are numerous promotions festival goers can seek out for discounted/free entry. You can also find different ticket packages here.
Since electronic music has surged in popularity, Summerfest has been keeping up by booking many different electronic/psychedelic/alternative artists the past few years. Last year fans were able to catch artists such as Diplo, Pretty Lights, MGMT, and Yeasayer. This year fans can enjoy Robert DeLong, Girl Talk, Umphrey’s McGee, and The Crystal Method. Some other popular names include, Nas, The Neighbourhood, Atmosphere, Neon Trees, B.O.B., Timeflies, and Ludacris. But, it’s sad to see DJ Pauly D listed as a headliner. To each their own….. right?
Marcus Amphitheater headliners include Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Dave Matthews Band, Outkast, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Mötley Crüe, Zac Brown Band, Fall Out Boy, and Paramore. You can find tickets for the amphitheater here.
