We’ve all heard of the progression of taste in electronic music. Many fall in love with the main stage, and from there start to appreciate sub-genres, and go further down the rabbit hole whether it be hard style, techno, tech house, drum & bass, etc. to usually find that sweet spot that just works for them. Mine is tech house, and my artist, is Claude VonStroke.
For those of you that don’t know much about Barclay Crenshaw, aka Claude VonStroke, he is a Detroit native that now resides in California with this San Francisco based label Dirtybird Records that has been around since 2005. Some of the tracks that helped to propel CVS’ talent around the globe are his funky classics “Deep Throat”, “The Whistler”, and “Who’s Afraid of Detroit?”:
With a mash of electronica, funk, disco (shake it), and house, it all amounts to a mixture of infectious beats that have you saying “what is this….. gloriousness!?!”
Other more recent huge hits from CVS included the laughable, yet catchy AF “Make a Cake”:
But don’t forget about all of the killer remixes of such greats as Rihanna or The Chemical Brothers. Transforming originals into other classics.
With such great production skills, comes great taste which is why Claude VonStroke’s selection of signed artists for Dirtybird Records has such a loyal fan base. Some of those standout artists include:
- Eats Everything
- Maetrik
- Justin Martin
- Shiba San
- Ardalan
- Kill Frenzy
- J Phlip
- Catz ‘n Dogz
- Julio Bashmore
- Riva Starr
- Breach
- Tim Green
And CVS is bringing along Justin Martin and J Phlip to play Sunset Music Festival as well, so even two more reasons to attend. To get a little taste of some of the other great talent, he Dirtybird 10 album really showcases the diversity of sound that each artist provides, with the same fun and never-taking-themselves-too-seriously-passion.
And after you have such a devout following, what do you do? Throw your own festival, or in Dirtybird’s case, a campout, which was hugely successful with many media outlets naming it one of, if not, the breakout festival of 2015. and It returns in 2016.
So why should you come to Sunset Music Festival and see Claude VonStroke? With amazing originals, particular remixes, a arsenal of the best tech house/techno/electronica artists under Dirtybird Labels, and his own festival? Enough said.
And just to reiterate the fun that CVS ensues, check out the video for “Make a Cake”:
And don’t forget about his most recent EP and title track “The Rain Break” for a little darker, but just as much funk journey:
