They say his apartment smells of rich mahogany, and that he has many leather bound books. Or that could be someone else. Regardless, believe me when I say that Shaun Frank is very much on his way to having a legendary status. Slated to play the tropical paradise event that is Sunset Music Festival, which takes place on this Memorial Day weekend on May 28th and 29th in sunny Tampa, Florida.
The solo artist has boosted himself from the studio in Toronto, into a large spectrum of different sub genres across the electronic music galaxy. From collaborations on tracks with heavy hitters like Borgeous, Oliver Heldens, KSHMR, and DVBBS, to solo tracks that have made huge waves, being played by a lot of high caliber artists. His sound and unique style has shot him right into all of our favorite playlists and mixes, tempting you to hit the repeat button every time.
We’ve been lucky enough to see him live once already at LIV Miami, and it was simply amazing. He danced as hard as we did, sung every lyric to every song, and we all fed off each other’s energy the entire set. While keeping to his sound and playing his signature tracks, Shaun stayed very genre friendly, giving you a chance to hear all your favorites in one festival worthy set. Easily one of our favorite nights and set in quite some time.
Released less than a month ago is Shaun’s newest track, a collaboration with DVBBS featuring gorgeous vocals from another Toronto resident Delaney Jane. This isn’t the normal sound of DVBBS, and that’s not a bad thing. It’s got a very melodic sound with some future house thrown in. It gives you a nostalgic feel of being somewhere happy and relaxing.
Quite possibly our favorite track by Shaun is his collab with KSHMR, “Heaven”. We’ve been obsessing over this particular track since we first heard it, and it still gets us going every single time. Yet another incredible feature from Delaney Jane showcasing her perfect vocals and range. This track resonates deep inside you building up only to drop off, leaving you gasping, until it picks up for an all out dance beat that is just flat out moving(quite literally).
This next track is a collaboration with the man himself Oliver Heldens, so you know it’s good before even hearing it. Amazing vocals from Delaney Jane yet again. If you haven’t noticed, the two work together quite a bit, and it’s basically an electronic music match-made-in-heaven. This track has a nice future sound to it, but it’s much funkier than a lot of the other tracks. It hits the nail on the head for “dance” music, because that’s exactly what it makes you do. Whether you know how to shuffle or not, you’ll be doing it by the end of this song without even noticing.
Rounding out Shaun’s extensive number of tracks in such a short time is “This Could Be Love.” This isn’t a track we could leave out, considering it being a huge hit for Shaun. A collaboration with Borgeous’ signature sound, and Delaney slaying once more with synth-induced vocals. This is one of those tracks you roll all the windows down and blare as loud as it can go, vibing with the people closest to you, on your way to somewhere like, let’s say… Sunset Music Festival.
If you haven’t guessed it by now, Shaun Frank throws one hell of a dance party. If you want to feel like the DJ you’re seeing is actually partying, vibing, and dancing right along with you, Shaun is the man to see.
