As a seeker of good vibes and creatively talented individuals, one of my main goals for Electric Forest was to find at least one person that grandly stood out among the rest. The Sherwood Forest houses many secrets and luckily I was fortunate enough to stumble upon the hidden gem of all that is Super Tall Paul. You won’t find him anywhere on the line-up, but this creator of “in the moment” music was one of the most talented performers at Electric Forest 2014.
Yesterday, the Jenkstars (a troupe of artists that organize the extra-special hidden performances of Electric Forest) announced that Super Tall Paul was elected the Mayor of Sherwood Forest for 2015. We have no idea what this means, but you can be sure that STP will be bringing some wildly silly new ideas to next year’s Electric Forest.
Tucked away between the Jenkstar’s Globe Theater and the Sollun, I was able to catch the Super Tall Paul experience three times. By combining vocal talents and the looping of instruments, he created a one-man-band that completely showcased his huge array of talents. To give an example: while watching one of his performances in the Globe Theater I saw him start a beat-box bass line, loop it, introduce the ukelele melody, sing, play the yazz flute as well as a saxophone, all while using some extremely skillful looping to mix and match the instruments he wanted to incorporate during that specific point in the song.
My words could never do the complexity of this performance justice, so check out this video of him winning second place in the BOSS Loop Station International Championship.
Congratulations to the New Mayor of Sherwood Forest!
