TÂCHES has just dropped his new EP To Move Mountains this week on his newly created label Glitter Cowboy. Beneath the fur coats and cowboy hats is Alex Christopherson, a man with his roots in the Balaeric islands of Spain and his career cultivating in L.A. He has been keeping himself busy this summer with performing at Burning Man for the first time, to releasing his new EP, to creating his very own record label. He had this to say about what inspired the name:
“I like to wear cowboy boots and drink beer faraway from societal responsibilities. I relish being uncomfortable and getting dusty in nature. It’s when I feel most alive.”
He has grown his project from humble foundations of house and introspective dance to now creating music that truly reflects himself. You may have caught his incredible abilities to use minimalism in the layers of his music but still have a deep impact with tracks like his remix of Naughty Boy’s ‘Think About It’ and Wet’s ‘Move Me’. These two in particular really garnered our attention with the former reaching over a million listeners on Soundcloud and the latter premiering in Vogue. He has recently dropped a Minimix through Nest HQ, an accumulation of his favorites tracks that he has released over the past year, which you can listen to here. Christopherson has started to embody what he wants out of his music. He aims to create a sense of self-awareness, authenticity, and deeper emotional spectrum.
In a recent interview, TÂCHES found that this EP was a representation of three different sides of himself and it was both an introspective look into his music and how he wants to translate that to the world. The first track ‘I Still Think of You’ really captures his “small strokes, big impact” ethos. He layers a minimal house beat, vocals breathing in and out, and guitar chords that quiver towards the end, as if representing how our hearts flutter when we think of an old crush. ‘No Bailes Sola’ is true to the name, with the sultry melody playfully striking back and forth with guitar strokes and floating pan flutes. It’s an intricate merging between Middle Eastern and Latin American inspirations. The EP is rounded off with ‘Unrequited Love Affair’ featuring the alluring vocals of Arum Flowers. It’s downtempo rhythms paired with the melancholic piano really capture the essence of the song and TÂCHES’ approach to music as a whole. Diving deeper into it, TÂCHES described how his background influences the discography’s growing aesthetic,
“The word Balearic to me, there’s a feeling of euphoria attached to it. It’s a good vibe. But at the same time, there’s always an element of melancholy. It’s a sadness attached to the transient nature of living and loving people. Emotionally, I think my music tends to sit in that melancholic field. I haven’t quite reached the level of heartbreaking emotion that I hope to convey through my music yet, but I’m getting closer.”
You can grab your copy of TÂCHES’ new EP on Soundcloud, Spotify, and iTunes. If it draws you in as much as it did us, you can check out his tour dates and see it live. It will definitely be an intoxicating, intimate experience.
