It was a wild few days for jam band lovers in Atlanta this past weekend. Phish was on their A-game, delivering two unbelievable nights of music at Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood, and TAUK kept the energy going with their impressive late night set Friday at Terminal West.
Graciously accommodating for the 11 p.m. show ending just south of the city, TAUK took the stage around 1 a.m. for an especially sold out show. Walk ups and procrastinators were out of luck, as anyone who got their hands on a golden ticket certainly weren’t letting go.
Channeling Page side, rage side, we landed in view of A.C. Carter’s keyboard/organ skills for the set, and even got a chance to catch up with the recent Raver Rafting interviewee. Needing confirmation regarding the story behind “We Hope Your Exorcism Was Successful” that he relayed during his interview earlier in the week, we were sorely disappointed in what turned out to be a prank on bandmate, Matt Jalbert (guitar). At least we all had a good laugh…except for Matt.
All jokes aside, start to finish TAUK played in effortless fluidity. From glissando to guitar riff, they entranced the room with their contagious energy. It was impossible not to smile watching Isaac Teel’s facial expressions while he was slaying on the drums. The melodies of “Friction,” “Collateral,” and a cover of The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby” were highlights from the show, but really every note was exceptionally crisp and vibrant. It wouldn’t be fair to pick a favorite.
The guys certainly made a few new ATLien Staukers last Friday, and we can’t wait to have them back again soon. Look out for details on TAUK’s upcoming live album in the weeks to come.
