On November 23, 2020, a beautiful soul left this world. Today we were all told the news of the passing of Garrett Falls Lockhart, the man behind the moniker i_o. For those that didn’t know, he was transcending the ranks of techno, bringing back elements of acid, driving, and an overall love affair with the darkness that we didn’t realize we were missing. He was a gateway to the genre for newcomers, a refresher for long time addicts, and for the rest, one of our favorites in electronic dance music of all time.
From first landing on Deadmau5’s label, Mau5trap and magnetizing enormous crowds at festivals like EDC Las Vegas and Electric Zoo, to launching his own imprint Label 444 and recently bridging the worlds of techno and trance with his remix of Above & Beyond’s “Alchemy” and his most recent remix of “Castles in the Sky” after signing onto Armada Records, i_o was an unstoppable talent. He helped us remember those glorious times of sweating out every drop of water in our bodies in warehouse raves, the gritty essence of the underground, and the reason why we rave in the first place.
Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans from the staff of RaverRafting. He will always be in our hearts. Rest in Paradise, friend.
