This week we sat down with French label Noire & Blanche to talk about their upcoming EP with producer Tell, coined Cool Bananas.
Noire & Blanche is an imprint label under Delicieuse Records, an artist management team, record label, and event series in France. N&B came about on a hot summer day in 2016 when, after a year-long conversation with French producer Folamour, a decision was made to open a sub-label to reflect a more classic take on house music. “Thing is we felt that Delicieuse Records, our main imprint, wasn’t the right label to release [Folamour’s] music on so we finally took the decision to create that sub-label after thinking about it for almost 2 years,” says one of the masterminds behind both labels, Mathieu.
Since then, Noire and Blanche has been releasing incredible EPs from Folamour himself, Australian producer Loure, and soon a new EP by Tell called Cool Bananas. When asked what they look for in potential releases, Mathieu mentioned how they specifically look for artists that are bringing something new to the scene in their ears. “We don’t release very often on the label, so we want every release to be composed of tracks all the team has validated previously. For example, it took almost a year to all agree on the track listing for the up & coming EP with French fella Tell.” This well thought-out process ensures the quality of each EP, which by the sound of them, has worked wondrously.
One of the tracks off Tell’s new EP is called “I Lost €200 In A Club,” and its question sparked our curiosity. We then asked Tell to clear things up.
“Sadly, yes! A friend of mine gave me the money just before getting into the club and I lost it a couple hours later because I was dancing too much.. When I realized [that I had lost the money], it killed my mood. I went home directly and started to make music to forget about it, and this track was born.” It starts off with some rugged drums coupled with a Kerri Hilson vocal sample off her song “Knock You Down” which, although unexpected, ties the track together very well. Listeners will catch themselves nodding in approval and absorb the melancholic, yet groovy tones found throughout.
The vibe that listeners should expect from the Cool Bananas EP is inspired by a combination of “vaporwave, a lot of boogie, disco, and japan stuff from the 80’s. I tried to recreate these ambiances together in the House’ style, still with my summer/vacancy mood,” as expressed by Tell himself.
Available now for digital and vinyl purchase, this is a release you won’t want to miss from one of France’s most up and coming record labels, Noire & Blanche. Grab your vinyl/digital copy of Cool Bananas here
