A common theme that has been reappearing with the tragedies occurring at festivals looks to be ignorance. Naturally, the first prediction of the culprit drug tends to be MDMA also known as molly, but more and more recently toxicology reports have been showing up as Methanol, also known as Bath Salts. Many people believe these types of tragedies can be avoided with knowledge. So much so, that an organization has been created to do just that, spread the knowledge.
An organization known as DanceSafe has been brought about to inform the public. They are a nonprofit organization made up of volunteers from within the rave community in Canada and the United States. They’re goals are to reduce harm and promote health and safety within the rave and nightclub communities. One of their booths was at TomorrowWorld in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia this past weekend. Located right outside the biggest tent on the grounds, volunteers handed out everything from earplugs to information cards on a plethora of drugs, and condoms from their air conditioned “cool down” tent. The staff was engaging to everyone walking by and open to talking about anything. The DanceSafe crew desired to ultimately promote safe dancing by being able to answer any questions or concerns people had in a safe and welcoming environment. They believe, that while all efforts are being put in to stop illicit drug use, people still need to be informed. The crew did this by informing festival-goers as to what to expect regarding safe dosages, facts about what exactly is being put into their bodies, and when to move to more relaxed and open spaces in order to remain in overall good health at any festival. Currently, they are unable to provide test kits on site, but are hoping to in order to prevent people from taking unknown substances.
