I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that every time a festival lineup comes out that I get excited and tickled on the inside. Usually it’s not this tickled though.
The Buku Music + Art Project returns to New Orleans in 2014 for its junior year and it’s sporting a truly diverse lineup that spans genres, generations and sounds. It’s something unique that has real appeal to music fans of all kinds. There’s house music, rock, dubstep, funk, soul, hip hop, trap, indie, deep house and everything else.
Watching the video and seeing the big names continually popping up, you have to wonder how they’re going to fit all of these artists into just two days.
Details ‘n stuff
The first thing you’ll pickup on is The Flaming Lips headlining. The Lips have one of the best live rock / art shows out there today and I’m sure Wayne Coyne will solidify his spot as the original guy who got in a bubble and ran around the crowd. Sorry Diplo, you’re caught copying again.
Chromeo, Chromeo, Chromeo! The electrofunk Canadian duo will have your feet tapping and body moving like no other. A ridiculously good time, it will be awesome to see them in New Orleans.
Buku replaced mainstreamer Calvin Harris with David Guetta. I’m not sure why Guetta gets booked to play in the South and who actually goes to see him (although Electric Zoo 2012 was good). He doesn’t have the same pull as someone like Tiesto and I’m sure he demands a ton of money.
The Glitch Mob will be coming off a new album.
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony because Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
The DJ Snake experience will probably pick up where Major Lazer left off last year.
The Buku Project Tickets and Travel
On-sale now they’re the perfect Christmas gift for the music fan in your family or friendship circles. For only $169.95 you get two days of some of the best artists in the world, plus you’re in the city of New Orleans which is an adventure on its own. Purchase them here.
There are plenty of accommodations in the area, but I’d recommend booking well in advance to save money. I stayed in the Garden District last year which was within walking distance to the festival. You can roll the dice on a site like Hotwire, rent a house on Bourbon St. (if so invite us) or get an apartment through Airbnb.
