As we saw in this year’s VMAs, dance music doesn’t belong in a publicly voted award ceremony with artists like One Direction and Pink. Fortunately, Insomniac Events and Dick Clark Productions publicly declared at this year’s EDMbiz conference in Las Vegas that they have teamed up to create an event that will feature talent found only in electronic dance music.
Allen Shapiro (CEO of Dick Clark Productions) said truthfully:
EDM is the fastest growing segment of the music industry, encompassing recorded music, live events and lifestyle.
But although it is the fastest growing genre of music, it is still not comparable to the blanketed popularity of pop music and hip hop heard on the radio. EDM needs its own home where it can be celebrated for its strengths separately from its more commercialized counterparts.
“Creating an award show focused on all the creative components that contribute to the success of dance music (music, art, production and lighting) has been a dream of mine for years,” said Pasquale Rotella (Founder and CEO of Insomniac).
Pasquale Rotella’s dream of showcasing dance music as its own entity is set to come true during next year’s Electric Daisy Carnival week in Las Vegas. The inaugural award ceremony will highlight the creativity of sound and performance that electronic artists have developed throughout the course of the year.
Both companies claim that the partnership was of natural selection. With Dick Clark Productions being responsible for widely publicized award ceremonies such as the Golden Globes as well as the American Music Awards and Insomniac bringing dance fans some of the biggest music events in the world, the union of the two for this project was an easy decision.
Details are not currently available about how the winners will be chosen at this time. We can only hope that this event will fairly honor credible talent and positive contribution to the electronic music industry.
