The Glitch Mob is nearing the 10th anniversary of their breakout album, Drink the Sea, that sent shockwaves throughout the music world and brought the band to the forefront of EDM’s attention. The L.A. based trio have returned to the EP format after a five year hiatus since their last, Piece of the Indestructible, to deliver us another encompassing soundscape with Chemicals. The three track EP reminds us just who they are and that their signature sound is a refreshing palate cleanser of the current state of the world. While their Drink the Sea tour had to be postponed until later this year, Ed Ma (edIT), Josh Mayer (ooah), and Justin Boreta couldn’t wait to share their latest creation with fans.
The three track EP starts off with title track, “Chemicals” and we’re immediately sent off into their universe. A call-to-action bass punches through as the smooth vocals give the track life. “Take Control” is a full embellishment of synth rise and falls, a melody that cuts through like needles and a resonating bass line. We end the journey with “The Stance”, a collage of rhythmic buildups and enthralling synth drops that is sure to sound incredible live.
While the tour is postponed until later this year, The Glitch Mob had an encouraging message to share with their fans in these uncertain times,
“We hope everyone is staying healthy and centered in this current situation. With the release of this new EP, we have been thinking about how music is medicine and is more important than ever right now. We are going to continue creating and releasing music with the intention to connect us all and to bring some levity to your day.”
With the release of their new EP, the trio are also releasing 500 limited edition Ultra Clear vinyl copies of Chemicals for all of those crate diggers out there. Fans can pre-order their copy here. The boys have also partnered up with Sony to deliver a remastering, 360 auditory experience of their entire discography. Chemicals will be the first to premiere the project later this month.
