The Floozies have been on an extreme high lately with the success of their festival performances as well as their down n’ dirty soul-funk hits. They have just finished a leg of their winter tour, but will pick back up after the holidays to bring you a one of a kind groove-a-thon. They will be hitting up Australia, the west coast, and the midwest in a few months, heating up the winter with their soulful sound. The Floozies have already stopped by the south to spread their holiday cheer and I was lucky enough to talk to Matt about their upcoming endeavors. The future looks bright for these two brothers, who have an incredibly special spark about their music.
Your tour just started a few days ago, what are you most excited for this time around?
We’ve been excited to try out all the new stuff we’ve been working on.
Is there a specific place that you are dying to visit while you are on tour?
Not really. Although the timing of this tour has been nice bc it’s getting pretty cold in kansas so it’s great to be in the south where it’s a bit warmer.
What are your plans for Christmas and New Years?
For Christmas we will be doing the family thing, which is something we always look forward to, and for New Years we are playing a big party in Atlanta called buckhead ball.
Are you excited to break the winter by going down to Australia to enjoy their summer season? What are you going to do while you are down there?
Australia is going to be super rad. We are making no plans other than playing a show and we will just go with the flow and say yes to everything that doesn’t involve boxing a kangaroo.
Your single ‘Fantastic Love’ just came out. When can we expect a full album from you guys?
Our next album is coming in January.
Will it have that quintessential Floozie’s sound or are you guys experimenting with some new stuff?
It still sounds like us but we are definitely trying a lot of new things.
It seems like you guys are very familiar with the festival scene. Are you expecting to play at any festivals this coming summer?
Oh yes. We love festivals. Might be getting our first ever main stage headline at a major festival. Winky face.
What is your favorite festival to play? If you could play any festival what would it be?
We don’t have a favorite. They’re all great in their own way. It would be cool to play tomorrowland, but I don’t think they’re into bands.
It seems like you guys like to be goofy on stage. I recently saw your summer festival 2014 video recap and noticed that Matt flashed the audience before one of your performances. What are some of your pre-show rituals to get you into the mood of performance?
Haha yeah that chest hair flash comes out every now and then. Lately we go to a local spot and get whatever food and drink they’re known for.
What has been your most memorable fan experience?
One time a completely naked chick got on stage and tried to knock over the drum set.
A lot of people including Rusko, are saying that your music is the best music to have sex to. Fuck, Marry, Kill 3 of your songs:
That’s awesome. I suppose I’d go fuck to “she ain’t yo girlfriend,” marry “do your thing,” and kill crunk feather bc the mix is so bad that we can’t really play it live anymore. Two of those are new and unreleased.
What inspired your sound when you were first starting out? How did you find such a fucky groove?
We never really thought about it. Just kind of made what we thought was the best music we could and this is what came out.
How did the electronic synth and mixing come into play?
The electronic stuff is just really exciting. It would be silly not to take advantage of and experiment with all these new musical tools we’re lucky enough to have at our disposal.
What is your number one favorite song right now?
That’s a tough one. We have a few go tos including where dey at doe, take on me airhorn remix, the whole Sam smith album, a couple deep cut james brown tunes, and also the score to interstellar is pretty STELLAR. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.
What is your brotherly dynamic like? Is there a difference when you’re on and off tour?
Mark and I have always been best friends and we almost always like the same stuff. We are very lucky in that regard.
What are your spirit animals?
Matt is a wolf. Mark is also a wolf. Bears are sweet too.
The Floozies are such a dynamic duo that feed off of each other on stage. These two are bound to have fun no matter where they are. Their energy transfers on and off stage so well. The guys are still going strong with their intimate, yet exciting tour. Catch them in all of their glory before they hit it big during festival season this summer.
