The number of fatalities has grown from two to three since the fatal hit-and-run accident which occurred last week at SXSW.
The victim’s name has been confirmed as Sandy Thuy Le, who was rushed to the hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries when she was hit by the suspect in question’s car. Le had moved to Austin after graduating from the Mississippi School of Mathematics and was working toward gaining Texas residency and attending graduate school.
Sole suspect Rashad Charjuan Owens is currently being held in the Travis County jail under a $3 million dollar bond. Owens faces two counts of murder and 23 counts of attempted aggravated assault after plowing through safety barricades and striking a group of SXSW festival-goers and pedestrians.
An Austin club, Mohawk, has set up a donation fund for families of the victims called SXSW Cares. Donations can be made to the fund here.
