This past Monday marked the release of Thriftworks’ Low Speed High Drag EP, a day members of the Thrift Gang have long been waiting for. Ever since his massive trio of album releases last April, Jake Atlas has been hard at work in the kitchen concocting all the milky bass music your eardrums can handle. Now that it’s all finished, Thriftworks has been showcasing his one of a kind sound far and wide lately, most notably kicking off a cross-country tour to showcase the shiny new EP.
This seven track offering is tried and true Thrift all the way through to the very end. Click play up top and you’re greeted with the dairy-laden goodness of the appropriately titled “Couple Glasses of Milk“. You should recognize “Juanito’s Patience“, a track that’s been out for some time now as it got released ahead of the EP drop.
One of our favorites off Low Speed High Drag is without a doubt “Mug Wall“. Jake’s eerie, soothing bass makes way for his trademark slowed down, distorted vocals thrown over the top. This time it was none other than Waka Flocka Flame doing the honors with a verse off his track “No Hands”. The rest of the EP is an absolute must listen, highlighted by a collab on “Ur Alive” featuring the soul melting flute of Russ Liquid.
Get ready to see more from Thriftworks in the near future, as he’s been taking the psychedelic bass scene by storm. Jake’s currently on tour hitting everywhere from NYC to Cali and everywhere in between, so be sure to check out the tour dates here and watch the man do his thing live. As always, if you like what you hear off Low Speed High Drag it’s highly encouraged to donate a couple bucks to the cause and support the artist.
