In Richmond, VA, a series of recurring parties known as “Booty Sweat” have developed since last winter. While the name may not communicate this, in a world where promoters are overcharging for and under-producing shows, this series is a diamond in the rough. Thrown by two of RVA’s DJs, RudeeBeatz & Eli Cash, the Booty Sweat shows have been high-quality, low-priced bangers that strive to showcase local talent and provide an easy way for attendees to have a great experience without burning a hole in their pocket.
Rudeebeatz & Eli Cash (known as RudeeCash on the occasions when they perform as a duo) are both white and under 5’10 and 140 lbs. Choosing the name “Booty Sweat” sarcastically, they set out to put on shows that both poke fun at the way some of the promotional world works, and elevate audiences’ expectations from the local scene. The first edition was a co-birthday party for the two of them, and after its success they decided to take this event to a club and start bringing in headlining talent to join them. The last two have featured Monument & Singularity as headliners (Singularity had the #1 Dubstep album at the time of his performance – and tickets were a mere $5), and this Saturday, July 27, the 4th one will feature Kat Face Party.
Starting out in London, Kat Face’s motto is simple: “Kat Face is the party where you draw a cat face on your face. Then we dance and drink and listen to dirty party music and have fun all night long.” They go on to say “A cat face on your face makes you look hot, cute and ridiculous all at the same time. Douchebags don’t like to draw cat faces on their faces. So there are no douchebags at our party. Kat Face is full of fun people who like dancing. We get good DJs. Even the DJs have to have Cat Faces on their faces.” After hosting different versions at places like Webster Hall in NYC, LA, & Philly, they are making their debut performance in RVA, and it’s sure to be impressive. DJs Tanner Caldwell & Dominatrixx (a new collab project between CJ Milli & Westside Schmucks) are representing the Kat Face crew, and the rest of the lineup features a diverse group of some of RVA’s top talent.
On September 20, Booty Sweat Vol. 5 will feature a jungle theme and Des McMahon, one of DC’s top dogs and Tittsworth’s right-hand man, as the headliner. Des is on the rise and has an EP that is about to drop on FEIDED, one of the more-respected labels in the US. This show will also feature direct support by Bobby La Beat X MASS Fx. Bobby is the head member of Audio Ammo, VA’s most respected DJ crew and the group that Gent & Jawns came out of, and MASS Fx has been tearing up venues across VA for years. Their Moombahton bootleg of “Underground Anthem” has received support by some big names, including Dillon Francis, and their new EP, which is a mixture of Moombahton & Trap, will be sure to get some serious playtime by everyone and their mom.
When asked to comment on the shows, RudeeBeatz said “Give me a few more swigs of this 40 and I’ll come up with something.” That pretty much says it all.
