Rising talent Tiedye Ky has dropped his first album, released independently and distributed through DistroKid, a platform that sends 100% of earnings back to the artists. A familiar name to bassheads, Ky has toured with CharlesTheFirst and performed at various festivals such as Okeechobee and AMF’s FriendShip. The album is the latest release since Ky dropped his ‘Basspunk Loverboy’ EP in 2018. This new album introduces new elements of guitar and vocal heavy tracks along with his signature bassy style to create a beautifully composed body of work.
The first two tracks “Over Again” and “Never Cage a Butterfly” have almost an alt rock feel, where Ky utilizes his vocal and guitar skills. This vibe is continually sprinkled throughout the album, with hints in some tracks like “Living Right Now” and “Lunar Girl”. The track “Hold On” slows things down with a tinkling melody, then delving into deep bass goodness. His signature bass vibe continues with “Maintaining It All”, “Don’t Do Me Like This”, and “I’m the Highest”, bringing the heat. “Save the Earth” is another heater with an important message; it’s great to see the meld of activism and music. The production value is incredibly high in everything this guy does, and it’s awesome to see an electronic artist break out of the genre and mix and mold his style into something unique and completely authentic to who he is. This confidence and authenticity is so refreshing and encouraging.
Two features are included on this album, with Pipus posthumously contributing to the song “Pipus and Wine/Life on a Loop”, a beautiful tribute to a life lost too soon. Renee King is also featured on “Lunar Girl” with some smooth, easygoing vocals.
This album is a supreme compilation of a variety of musical influences. Give it a listen below:
