Diplo has proven time and time again that his BBC Radio 1 show, Diplo & Friends, is one of the best and most diverse electronic dance music radio broadcast in the world. He has showcased sets by artists like RL Grime, Avicii, Kennedy Jones, Ryan Hemsworth, Crookers, Baauer, and more. I don’t think I can recall ever hearing a disappointing mix. This is one show I’d highly recommend to EDM new comers because you’ll alway hear fresh sounds and get a healthy dose of different styles from across the dance music spectrum.
In a short interview with InTheMix.com Tiesto spoke about his upcoming Diplo & Friends mix.
Q: Diplo recently told us you have a mix coming up on his radio show, and he said we might be “surprised” by it. Can you tell us anything about the mix?
A: “I wanted to make selections I wouldn’t necessarily play in my DJ sets – more my general taste in music.”
He also touched on the fact that genres are limiting.
Q: Diplo also said, “In my opinion if you’re an up-and-coming DJ you better play everything, because in 2014 kids are not going to be into just one sound.” Is that something you agree with?
A: “Yeah, I think getting caught in genres is limiting. I’m truly a fan of all sorts of sounds and without a doubt you’ll hear all sorts of styles in my set. I agree.”
I’m glad that we’re going to hear something different out of Tiesto. I completely agree with his statement about genres being limiting. However I am noticing a lot of producers, particularly up-and-comers, shattering boundaries everyday. I think a diverse mix that will challenge hardcore Tiesto fans is just what artist need to realize that they should, and can, step out of their comfort zone once in a while. To me this is an essential step in pushing electronic dance music forward and keeping it interesting.
As of right now there is no current date for Tiesto’s mix. Once we find out we will update this post.
