Chicago is closing in on Tiesto time with much anticipation, after the DJ’s back injury caused the Club Life College Invasion Tour to re-schedule it’s October show. Tijs will now arrive in Chicago on December 7, supported by Zedd at the UIC Pavillion.
With DJ friends taking over his podcast throughout his recovery period, we can only hope that Tiesto has been crafting some new tracks and will be bringing his bag of tricks on the road. No doubt the evening will include selections from Club Life Miami Vol. II, his recent release “Pair of Dice” with Allure, and other tracks like the massive “Cannonball” by Justin Prime and Showtek that blew his crowd away at Electric Zoo. Any loyal Club Life listener acknowledges that Tiesto is a taste-maker; seeing him live is a non-negiotable on the music calendar.
Since the cancellation of Tiesto’s original date, supporting act Dada Life has been swapped out for the trending German force Zedd. While Dada Life would have been the perfect primer for Tiesto, with more than enough banana and champagne shenanigans to fill the UIC Pavillion, they came through Enclave in October and did not sell Chicago short. On the other hand, Zedd has cultivated quite a following in Chicago, with a Lollapalooza pre-party and festival set that really delivered. His sold-out show at the Mid in late October was wildly entertaining and all over the board. After hitting the decks late in the night, he bounced around from “Kangaroo” to “Otherside,” and playfully incorporated “Who Let The Dogs Out.” Zedd even threw “Levels” out there, announcing “this is my favorite song!” and then changing it up just as the cliche Avicii track was about to drop. While his newest album Clarity is heavy on the dance-pop, radio-ready songs, there are a couple of tracks that have proved to be club appropriate and pretty powerful: “Codec,” “Stache,” and “Fall Into the Sky” featuring Ellie Goulding. I may be ambivalent about the album on the whole, but with a couple of remixes and appearances by his older material, Zedd will surely shave it up.
With a powerhouse like Tiesto, a hot up-and-comer like Zedd, and a venue as big as the UIC Pavillion, you should be sure to grab tickets while they’re still available. It’s the most Tiesto time of the year.
