How did you meet your team that makes up the YouTube channel?
We all met in Boston while we were in school at Berklee College of Music. It was a great place to meet super creative people. Me and one of the drummers, JP Bouvet, got into doing videos while we were there. It started off as pretty straightforward stuff, we would just put cameras up while we were playing, and then edit it together. Now I do all of the video stuff for our channel, and I can’t wait to keep growing it and learning more.
What got you more interested in dance music?
I’ve always been into anything that could make you boogie. From Prince, to Blink 182, to Bluegrass. Seeing people light up and start moving when a song comes on is what I live for. I love when I’m in a new place, or a random bar, and some song I’ve never heard comes on and everyone in the room gets out of their chair with an ‘OH SHIT THIS IS MY SONG’ look on their face. The way festivals, especially EDM ones, have started to evolve is that they are a culmination of all those ’THIS IS MY SONG’ songs, and its really exciting to be a part of. Since that style of music has been growing, and since I make most of my music on my computer, it has influenced me a lot.
What are you favorite parts of the culture so far, what was the first dance music song you listened to?
I guess the first ‘dance’ stuff I listened to was Daft Punk in high school. I remember this girl in one of my class showed me ‘Robot Rock’ off of ‘Human After All’ and I didn’t give her iPod back for like a week. I could tell that those guys were like me. They were doing their own thing, I mean they had some obvious influences for sure, but they had created something that was super new, exciting, and it caught on with people instantly. Ever since then, that has been my vision basically. Try and make something that is equal parts – new, exciting, and understandable.
What unique projects can you see yourself bringing into dance music, given your experience and resources?
A lot of stuff I make ends up blurring the line between genres and styles. I think many artists get directed into one style for one reason or another, which isn’t necessarily bad, but its not my thing. I genuinely love so much music, and the music I create is a reflection of that. So I guess what I can bring to the table is the eclectic flavor that I have been brewing up ever I started making, or more importantly, listening, to music.
