I first heard of TOBY with his previous release of the single “17”. A tune that introduced me to TOBY’s very distinct, very defined soft chord and vocal sample combination. I know what you’re thinking: “Doesn’t everyone do that now?” Many do. But TOBY’s style you could pick out of a crowd. His ability to make a wide variety of simplistic, chill, and poppy beats using a very similar style each time is impressive and captivating. Which is why I’m particularly stoked that RaverRafting gets to premiere his new EP Tax Free.
“My main aim for this release was to keep my music fun & upbeat, and I also really wanted to portray all the different styles & genres in my sound – and I think I’ve accomplished all of these things quite well”. – TOBY
Up-and-comers Infuhmus and The Napoleon Complex also make an appearence on this EP, giving TOBY’s sound a balances of personification along side the instrumentals.
My favorite part of Tax Free EP is certainly the balance very calm and very energetic tracks, all kept within a chill spectrum. TOBY took advantage of the extra benifits EPs can offer, and clearly carefully considered, timing, track order, intensity level and more to make the multi-track EP feel more like an imaginative story.
