Back in 2011, two well-known, well-seasoned names had teamed up on a simple, alluring single titled “Don’t Look Back,” which has gone on to please millions of ears since it’s original release in 2011. Two rising names have brought the name back in a refreshing manifestation, that being Sgt Slick and Gerd Janson. They both add a certain colorful funk and flavor to the experience, yet this is a 2-track remix release with each of them that puts their own twist on the 10-year-old single.
“Don’t Look Back (Sgt. Slick’s Discotizer),” is the more light hearted and colorful of the bunch. The single showcases an eased nature, a nu-disco feel, and uplifting atmospheres to breathe new life into the work, the results is something easy to dance to and delivers an all around classy feeling.
Following next is Gerd Janson with his spin on things. Featuring a more arpeggio-like nature, the direction here is certainly more experimental and introverted. Glitch effects and a seemingly new-wave energy is presented within, but the percussion drives the feeling toward a more disco vibration.
Both Sgt. Slick and Gerd Janson do justice to the original, it being an honor to be officially released on Vicious Recordings flipping these two heavyweight name-stays in the industry.
