Grand Theft Auto V may be the greatest video game ever released. TomorrowWorld may be the greatest music festival to ever happen in America. How do you decide between the two? Use this guide to help.
1.) Scenery
GTA 5’s world is totally immersive and bigger than any video game world ever created. You can freely explore anywhere in the game which has lead to a lot of discussion as to what is exactly in this shed.
TomorrowWorld takes place at the beautiful grounds of Bouckaert Farm in Fairburn, Georgia. The site is setup to be over 800 sprawling acres of “Adult Disneyworld” filled with high production stages, art displays and more. They’re even bringing the giant book stage over.
Advantage: Slightly GTA
Both will take a lot of time to explore on your own or with a group of people, but it’s going to take a lot longer to get into TomorrowWorld than it does to power up your Xbox. Just trying to find CounterPoint last year was crazy and this year there will be even more people! What’s more terrifying than getting lost in the hills of Georgia? Nothing.
2.) The People
GTA 5 boasts multiplayer for the first time in the series and allows you to plug into battle with up to 15 other people and complete missions, cause mayhem and compete in death matches. The only setback is that it won’t be ready at launch and should come a few weeks later.
TomorrowWorld is expected to see over 35,000 people in just the camping area alone. The advantages for real life include the fact that it’s a giant electronic music festival, everyone is there to have fun and it’s strictly 21+. So there won’t be any p-tots on the grounds.
Advantage: TomorrowWorld
No one likes little kids saying blasphemous things about their mother at them over the internet. Plus tens of thousands of pretty ravers all looking to have fun is an unexperience like no other.
3.) The Music
GTA has 15 radio stations, two talk radio stations, 240 licensed songs, and somewhere in the proximity of 20 movies worth of score. It’s the largest soundtrack they’ve ever done and includes a ton of unreleased material from the likes of LOTUS and Tyler the Creator.
TomorrowWorld has 300 artists performing on eight different stages simultaneously throughout the day. Want to hear some trance, head to the trance tent. Trap music? Well I’m pretty sure that will be played everywhere given that TW is in the dirty south.
Advantage: Even
TomorrowWorld’s lineup is too familiar at the end of the summer when most people have had the chance to catch these artists a couple of times already.
4.) The Adventure
GTA 5’s story line is “freewheeling, nihilistic satire on western society – as well as ridiculous fun”. While most of you look on Wikipedia for what nihilism is, I’ll just help you out and say that the adventure in this game is like a mix of all things evil: politics, money, drugs, Hollywood and guns.
TomorrowWorld is a little bit more unknown. You’re free to create your own adventure and make the festival experience unique to whatever genres or other activities appeal to you. Since it’s the first one ever in the United States, going will make you part of history.
Advantage: TomorrowWorld
There’s really no comparison between sitting on your couch playing a game and finding a new member of your rage family or even a festival love. Festival love baby, it’s too too real.
5.) Level of Production
GTA 5 is the most expensive video game ever made, with a total of over $137 million spent towards its development. That’s more than the average Hollywood blockbuster.
Tomorrowland is known to spare no expense, but as over 10,000 tickets remain for the first ever TomorrowWorld and a low international presence, it’s unknown whether they’ll be able to replicate the experience even at a smaller scale.
Advantage: GTA 5
A video game that cost more to develop than that overhyped movie Prometheus? Definitely something worth checking out even if you’re not a regular player.
Final Verdict… BOTH!
After a bunch of senseless debate you should spend all of your time playing now to get as much gameplay in as possible before TomorrowWorld next weekend. Your couch, XBOX and Los Santos will still be waiting for you when you get back from TomorrowWorld. Tickets available here.
