Insomniac’s legendary three day Vegas festival just wrapped up its 20th anniversary this past Sunday. After three days of non-stop music, dancing, and partying, EDC Las Vegas ended without incident leaving festival goers satisfied with another remarkable year. Mixed in with amazing people, great vibes, and endless pool parties, Insomniac once again made Vegas their own carnival. With a total attendance over three days that likely topped 400,000, this EDC Vegas is one for the record books.
As with every EDC Vegas, there were some standout moments from the festival that put it apart from others. Whether it was the ‘fire’ ID’s or Tiesto trolling the crowd with his Marshmello helmet, this EDC Las Vegas was chock full of tearful, yet epic moments. Without further ado, these are RaverRafting’s top five EDC Las Vegas moments!
5. BassPod Catches on fire
During Andy C’s set at around 3:00 AM, one of the structures surrounding the BassPod became engulfed in flames. Stage employees responded but were unsuccessful in their attempts to put the fire out and one would go on to be treated for mild burns. The Clark County Fire Department then responded and were able to contain the fire before it spread to other parts of the stage. BassPod was evacuated and would be reopened only an hour later. A malfunction with one of the pyro devices would be cited as the cause of the fire. Thankfully no one was severely injured.
4. Seven Lions’ Live Set
Premiering loads of new music, Seven Lions has once again stolen the show at EDC Las Vegas. Being dubbed as one of the most impressive sets of the whole weekend, the Santa Barbara native is rising through the scene like none other. Just recently releasing his popular festival mix of “Coming Home” (1:03:00) with Ricky Mears, Seven Lions undoubtedly destroyed the decks this year. Throwing down one of the most diverse sets you’ll find, Lions destroyed Kinetic field with a mix of psytrance, trance, progressive, and dubstep. You can find his set live on SoundCloud.
3. Anna Lunoe & Alison Wonderland
In a legendary moment, Anna Lunoe would become the first solo female artist to play the EDC Las Vegas main stage in its 20 years of existence. With a heartfelt Facebook post, the Aussie producer also paid tribute to Krewella, who tore down the main stage in 2014, albeit with Rain Man at the time. Alison Wonderland would then go on to perform at the main stage on Sunday. Both had words to describe the moment via Facebook, here’s what they had to say.
holy shit. last night I became first girl to play mainstage in 20 yrs of #edclv.. (solo that is, shout out Krewella for doing it in 2014) . Ten years of non stop grindin. seeing this photo makes me wanna cry. thank u everyone who helped me do this…. we just went down in history. – Anna Lunoe
This is the first year EDC LV has had women play the main stage. I feel honoured and also a massive responsibility to represent what’s right ?nervous af hope I do Australia and women proud tonight :/ – Alison Wonderland
2. Eric Prydz’s New ID
Although his newest track is being called several different things, nothing can take away from how spectacular it is. Some people are calling it “Opus 2.0”, while Prydz took to Twitter to dub it “Nopus”. The newest rendition of his previously emotional track is the perfect spin to leave the EDC Las Vegas crowd wondering what they just experienced. Equipped with classic up beat progressive synths that Prydz is known for, this newest ID will take you on an eight minute emotional journey. Fused in with some of EDC’s most spectacular fireworks, it’s no surprise the crowd was losing their mind when this beautiful moment occurred. Pairing a Prydz ID with one of the most spectacular festivals in the country can only create moments that will be remembered for a lifetime.
1. Above & Beyond’s Push The Button
A rare occurrence during an Above & Beyond set, the British trio actually chose the push the button guest before the show had even started. After receiving a letter from Anthony Vagenas, Above & Beyond agreed beforehand his grandparents should be the ones to push the button. In the spirit of keeping the scene between people of all ages, this is the classic Above & Beyond move. Mixed in with a shower of red and white confetti, this “push the button” tops all previous ones. Creating an amazing experience at an electric land of paradise, Above & Beyond has once again stolen the hearts of festival goers. You can check out the full letter and video below. Here’s to a spectacular EDC Las Vegas and many more like it.
“I am currently going to attend Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Las Vegas with my brother and grandparents, and I’ll keep this short and sweet. My grandmother turns 75 years old Friday, June 17th, and my grandpa will be 84 years old during the time as well. I’m trying to give them the best experience that they can have while they are there at EDC, and would love for my grandparents to push the button. We have to keep the edm scene going for as long as we can and this would really help to prove that the age difference has no affect in a place like EDC, and everyone loves everyone.” – Anthony Vagenas
