Bonnaroo, the most magical time in a person’s life, is coming to you in just a matter of days. If you are anything like me, you have been counting down the days to be back on the farm with your 80,000+ friends and family members. Bonnaroo is a great way to forget all of your troubles, dive into the scene, and find out which artists tickle your fancy. Here are my top 7 up and coming artists that will blow your experience out of the water.
Robert DeLong DJ Set
I knew I loved Robert DeLong from the moment I saw an interview with him at Lollapalooza last year. I fell in love with not only his sound, but his vibe, his passion, and his creativity. He creates his beats using looped voice, drum, and synth effects. He’s so unique because he is able to use vintage gaming controllers to trigger different sounds and layers throughout his performances. The cool thing about DeLong is that he likes to tap into his electronic DJ side. He will be performing twice, and I recommend the DJ set, especially if you like experimental samples. You should definitely hype Rob’s DJ Set at the Silent Disco on Thursday night at 11:30 to kick off your festival experience.
Chvrches
Chvrches hails from Glasgow in the United Kingdom, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t familiar with partying in the United States. After blowing up last fall/winter, Chvrches have performed at tons of festivals and live shows. Their sound portrays an electronic-whimsical vibe similar to that of Canadian Duo, Purity Ring. Chvrches has a high energy and slightly poppy sound that makes them perfect when you’re ready to just chill. Catch them in The Other Tent on Friday at 7:30.
Skrillex Super Jam
With the launch of his Mother Ship Tour, Skrillex is going to be bringing a lot of energy to Bonnaroo. Not to mention the Superjam will be packed with most of his tour buddies and they will certainly not disappoint. With friends like Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, Big Gigantic, and Robby Krieger from The Doors, you know there will be a ton of mashups. This is to hoping that Dillion Francis, DJ Snake, or GTA will be there to throw down too! See the Skrillex Superjam on Saturday at This Stage at midnight.
The Glitch Mob
The Glitch Mob have been around for what seems likes almost a decade. They are already an established group, but they have given themselves a progressive feel while involving their old sound. With their newly released album, The Glitch Mob are ready to killing it during their live shows. Seen at Buku 2014, I can assure you that The Glitch Mob goes dirty, but in a classy sort of dirty. They knowhow to get down. Catch their set on Saturday in The Other Tent around 2:15 am.
Classixx DJ Set
Classixx’s take on electronic music follows the tastes of many laid back festival goers. Classixx follows the tradition of the three bears; they aren’t too hard, aren’t too soft, they are just right. After a long day of partying, sometimes it’s cool to just sit back and chill. If you want a late night act to just sway to, I would suggest taking on Classixx’s DJ Set. Classixx will be performing twice at Bonnaroo. Check them out on Saturday in The Other Tent at 1:45 pm or Saturday at the Silent Disco at 12:30 am.
Capital Cities
Capital Cites have been around since last year, but they are just now gaining steam with their energetic performances at Coachella and Hang Out. They are a unique group because they use synth effects and loops, but play into it with live drumming, guitar riffs, and a harmonious trumpeter. The group has a great dynamic and you can really feel their energy when they play. They put on a great show with coordinating outrageous outfits and all. The trumpet player is the icing on this fun and creative cake also known as Capital Cities. Don’t miss Capital Cities, which will be performing on the Which Stage at 2:30 on Sunday.
Little Dragon
Little Dragon has been a part of the music scene for a while. They have collaborated with a ton of big names including Big Boi, SBTRKT, and Gorillaz to name a few. They definitely aren’t new to the scene, so they know how to throw down. They are also Bonnaroo alumni, so they are guaranteed to put on a great production. Little Dragon has an underlying electronic sound that includes a powerful and emotional female lead voice. With the debut of their new album, Little Dragon is excited to be out on the grounds again. Watch Little Dragon performing at The Other Tent on Sunday at 7:30.
Bonnaroo is one of the most magical places on Earth. It really is all about your personal experience and I hope that these artists mentioned will be on your go to list. If you can’t make the festival, you can still check out these artists via your XBox at home. You can also catch up on the 11 must see artists at Bonnaroo. Once your on the farm, make sure you check out these amazing artists at Bonnaroo.
