Everyone is familiar with tropical house, but most haven’t made the connection that tropical house has opened doors to new genres as well as intertwined others existing genres together in new ways that never would of occurred otherwise, forming a a few umbrella genres typically referred to as ‘chill house’ or ‘melodic house,’ which are filled with a full spectrum of crossover sounds within.
My point is, tropical house is evolving, and so have the artists and collectives that have helped make it what it is and what it’s becoming.
One of the best and most recent examples of this evolution in motion is the coordination of a new music showcase “TropiKult Takeover,” led by the music collective under the same name: TropiKult.
The event will be held at The DL in NYC and is really first of its kind.
The branding of the poster clearly calls out to the audience who help build the genre, only time will tell if chill house fans will pull themselves away from their computers and prove there is a live audience market to be served. Either way, putting something like this on is truly ambitious and really the first of it’s kind.
