Adam Beyer’s Truesoul label is celebrating its 100th release with Riva Starr’s Hyperloop, out now on Beatport. As Drumcode’s sister, Truesoul has represented the funkier side of Adam Beyer’s repertoire for over 15 years and 100 releases later, from the likes of Maetrik, Cirez D, Hot Since 82, Reset Robot and now Riva Starr, Adam has catapulted into the techno stratosphere of success.
Riva Starr takes us back in time to a place that we can call home with little hints of inspiration taken from house classics. Reminiscent of 90’s tracks from Deee-Lite or Groove Armada, Riva Starr’s “Resilience” really shows how resilient house from that time can be, and also how adaptable the genre can be and in Hyperloop, house has become techno. “Resilience” is also quite daring in the choice to mix strings with a punchy beat, now known as a key characteristic of modern techno, but as a first track, it’s the perfect opener to a project that is meant to encapsulate all of Truesoul’s work.

“Fallen Angel” presents a softer yet filmy sound, but the pace keeps it upbeat but again, the track’s twists and turns take the listener on a journey, from the sublime piano to a crackling, dark kicks, this is one for those early afternoon festival sets. The third track is a remix of “Fallen Angel” by hailed techno producer and Truesoul member, Tiger Stripes. He switches the sound to become a little faster, a little more mysterious and a little more haunting. The Arabic vocals Tiger Stripes has decided on follows a trend that seems to be emerging when it comes to remixing recently, but instead a track for the morning, in the last track of Hyperloop, it’s now one for dusk dancing.
