After a series of back to back sets together, including an insane two hour throwdown at Great North Festival, Tsimba and Deez have finally released their versatile collaboration EP. The two producers, both rising names in the east coast bass scene, previously worked together on the track “Raw Reefer“, but their EP together elevates their sound to a whole new level.
Formless finds the right balance between heavy and chill music. The hype songs have a tint of darkness to them, while the more atmospheric songs still utilize beefy basses. The EP’s title track is a melodic journey that stays true to the percussive nature of Tsimba’s “Future Roots Sound”, filled with hard hitting and complex drum patterns, while psychedelic bass noises float in and out of the listeners realm of consciousness.
Perhaps the most hype song on the release is the closer track, a dark and heavy drumstep tune that chugs along to the beat of an acoustic drum kit. The processed Redman vocals add nice contrast to the bass and haunting lead synth, inspiring listeners to “Turn it up some”.
The EP also includes a solo track from each of the two producers. Tsimba’s “Orbiter” is an ethereal tune with evolving basses, while Deez’ “Purple Smoke” is a bouncy hip-hop track focusing around tripped out vocal samples.
As Tsimba and Deez continue to develop we hope to hear more dope collaborations like this, but we are also excited to see what the two producers can achieve on their own. Each producer has a unique style that blended flawlessly on this EP. If the two continue to push out work of this quality, then it’ll be no surprise seeing their names pop up on more and more lineups across the nation.
