Tyson Illingworth, better known to the electronic dance music community as tyDi, is clearly passionate about his music. However, he is also passionate about giving back to communities that are less fortunate than him in an effort to try to make a difference. Over this past weekend while he was touring through the Philippines, tyDi took the time to visit the streets of Manila (the capital of the Philippines) to talk music and life with young children. From the pictures throughout this article as well as tyDi’s passage below, it’s easy to tell that this is an experiences that both parties won’t ever forget.
“Always remember that someone else is happy with less than what you have” – A quote that I’ve tweeted before but never truly appreciated until this weekend when I got to spend time with some children who changed my life. Whilst on tour in the Philippines I was able to hang out with these kids who live on the streets. Many of them have no homes or families and they come from very difficult and dangerous situations. A fantastic program gives them a chance to experience something that most of us take for granted… music!
I showed them how I play and make music, I got to see them laughing, smiling, dancing and having fun. They played me some of their own songs and unintentionally reminded me of how grateful I should be about my own life. The whole experience was incredibly heart warming and I’ve been told that through this program some of the kids have gone on to get jobs. I’ve always known that music brings people joy, but to see its effect on children who literally have nothing else in life was an experience that no words can describe. I certainly won’t forget it! – tyDi
