There are moments in our lives that we wish we could relive over and over again. Now that we have caught some z’s and unpacked our suitcases, it’s time we took a look back at one of these moments — the magical Fourth Chapter of Untold Festival.
It’s no secret that Untold is one of Romania’s gems and the best party that awaits us in Transylvania. We stepped foot in the land of the wolf pack once again, prepared for four days and nights of nonstop fun with some amazing artists and, boy, were we in for an unforgettable weekend. Over 355.000 people joined us in the World Capital of Night and Magic this year. We already knew the line-up was fire, but we never expected it to be so lit.
The Chainsmokers opened up the festival with a performance that gathered fans from all over Cluj Arena, despite the rain that scared them away just moments before. The duo energized the entire Untold land and set the bar high for the remaining days. Commanding the stage next was Oliver Heldens, Diplo, and Afrojack, with the first day ending near sunrise with Will Sparks’ music. Nina Kraviz, Pan-Pot, Borgore, Pendulum and Black Coffee also threw down phenomenal performances around the festival at various stages over the course of the first day.
Day 2 was marked by a live performance from Jason Derulo, followed by sets from Kygo and Tiesto. While the night began magically with Kygo performing “Firestone” on the piano, it ended in major style on a massive high with KSHMR. The artist ended his show by saying “I’ve been to Coachella, I’ve been to Tomorrowland, I’ve been to EDC, I’ve been to Ultra… but this is the best motherfucking crowd I’ve ever had. My name is KSHMR, thank you Romania!”Solomun packed Galaxy Stage, while Steff Da Campo, Jack Perry, and Pascal Junior moved the party along at the Time Stage.
Day 3 was ruled by The Prodigy. Rarely have we seen such energy from both the performers and the crowd, making it one of the most memorable sets of the entire festival. Then Danny Avila and Alesso followed to warm up the crowd for what was to come.
65,000 people filled up Cluj Arena to the brim for Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’ s set. The brothers loved it, calling Untolders the best crowd ever and inviting Bogdan Buta, the main organizer, on stage to thank him. The guys took Crowd Control to the next level, asking the public to take the 8 steps while also holding up their lighters and phones. The night ended with Steve Aoki’s tribute to Avicii and Chester Bennington and with, of course, a taste of cake.
The last day of Untold Festival saw an exclusive and highly anticipated performance by The Black Eyed Peas. The crowd felt electrifying, and we danced so much we weren’t sure we could hold up for the rest of the night.
Meanwhile, a secret party was unraveling at the Galaxy stage. For those not lucky enough to find an entry bracelet, the secret artist, Tujamo, performed on the Main Stage soon after. At midnight, we joined Brooks at Time stage for one of the best sets of the festival and for the best party we could have asked for.
Lastly, the Mainstage closed with Armin van Buuren. While last year his set lasted for hours, this time around Armin came back with a set that ran no less than 7 glorious hours! The trance titan left the stage at 9 am, after making ravers feel like time had truly stood still. Armin thanked Untolders for the undying support before leaving and promised to return next year, which he has never failed to do since the festival began 4 years ago.
Over 250 artists performed on 9 stages this year. Looking back at all the stages, we can’t really choose a favorite. Tram stage was the best place to experience a new kind of party: you guessed it, a party in a tram. Galaxy was the place to be for techno lovers with names like Nina Kraviz, Solomun, Loco Dice, Seth Troxler, Pan-pot, and Jamie Jones.
Alchemy Stage by Absolut Vodka was where you went to get down and dance to rumbling beats with both Romanian and international acts. The lineup included Borgore, Pendulum DJ Set, Noisia, Flux Pavilion and Wilkinson DJ Set.
We have to admit, we had a soft spot for Time stage, while Daydreaming was our favorite chill-out spot for throughout the entire festival. Besides listening to some great music from names like Black Coffee and Claptone we got to play Jenga, take picturesque snaps on the swings and catch some rest in between sets.
The Trance stage by Red Bull was also a great place to party for trance lovers, with sets from the likes of ATB, Solarstone, and Gareth Emery. And of course, we can’t forget about Earth Spirits and Forest stage, both an oasis to chill and dance for those who were looking to avoid the crowds.
There was so much to do inside the festival’s grounds, we’re sure we didn’t manage to do it all. Winston got people flying (literally) with their 5 Minutes of Freedom, Fantasy Corner transformed every outfit into a red-carpet worthy look, Engie’s dance station got people jumping, and Transylvania All Inclusive promised to turn anyone into a true Transylvanian in only 5 steps.
After all that dancing we recharged in the Food Village. Here you could find Japanese, Mexican, Romanian. Burgers, noodles, sandwiches, falafel, hummus. espresso, cold brew, beer, vodka, soda and everything else in between.
As we left the Untold realm on Monday, catching the first rays of sun, we couldn’t help but look back at the park, the Arena, the lake… and wish there was a way life could be like that forever. It wasn’t about the location, the stages, the fashion or even the line-up. It was about the people, the music and the love we all shared. And we can’t wait until next year.
